I would prefer a KVM that supports MST or failing that one that supports 2 displayport, but it is not *as* critical to me.
I would be OK (for now) with a single display so long as the desktop behaves as if the monitor(s) remain(s) connected. Unfortunately for me the people that are using one are (one or more of the following) only using a single display, connecting via something other than displayport, and/or don't care about the OS's behavior when it thinks a monitor disconnected. So (hardware)KVMs are allowed/encouraged. I've looked and can't find a well rated EDID passthrough for displayport (did find for VGA and HDMI) so if that would solve the "things move around when switching theKVM" issue, that would be a workaround perhaps. If it's on amazon or new egg I can get m job to order it and ship it to me so that's prefered, but not required.
Optional nice to haves: Supports Displayport 1.4, supports MST (aka daisy chaining monitors), USB 3.0, supports dual displayport displays (not via MST). Which means going back to hardware KVM land, but all my "good" displays are displayport now, so my existing VGA/DVI stuff won't work hereĪbsolute minimum requirements: Displayport 1.2 and USB 2.0, with EDID emulation/memory so the display is "remembered" so that the connected computers don't automatically rearrange things.
New job, working from home and strict security requirements on the work laptop, so no SSH or remote desktop TO the laptop. So, this may not be exactly the right location, but it is a hardware item and I will use it with my self build workstation so.
